Statement

The language of shapes is one that everybody speaks. The inherent notion that round is safe, or sharp is dangerous, is how we recognize the world. One glance tells you whether something is friend or foe. My work harnesses the nature of shape to invoke deep seated instincts developed over many years of evolution. A strong piece can be reduced to just a silhouette and have just as much of a presence. These objects, like many in the world, accomplish their job simply by being. They need not vie for your attention, you just give it to them. In sum, my pieces are exploring the nature of how we perceive objects that simply are, and questioning what it is about them that instills the feelings they do.
